Positive Behaviour Support Gold Coast & Brisbane

What our Behaviour Specialists do?

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support is a behavioural approach that encourages clients to reduce and eventually eliminate problematic behaviours through a proactive approach. This method is most effective for children and adults with learning disabilities and challenges, and it can be used to address the underlying cause of the behavioural problem.

Mental health professionals can teach NDIS participants and their carers how to deal with the root cause of behavioural problems using the behaviour support approach.

To name a few, steps taken include improving communication skills, regulating emotions, and focusing on a task at hand.

The individualised approach, on the other hand, is determined by the underlying cause of the patient’s problem and the behaviours displayed.

The methods included in the behaviour support plan will be used to replace and eventually eliminate undesirable behaviours.

Individualised Strategies

Behaviour support is about creating individualised strategies for people with a disability in response to the person’s needs with the objective to reduce and eliminate the need to use regulated restrictive practices.

Our behavioural specialists take a holistic approach to behaviour modification, exploring the biological, social, and psychological factors behind behaviours. Performing in depth assessment and observation of our clients and their environments.

This approach considers the client’s overall health and wellness and not just looking at the behaviours in isolation. While not a sole cultural service, ITS will have support workers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Specialist Behaviour Intervention Support

The Integral Therapeutic Support team is prepared to offer highly specialised behaviour intervention support to NDIS participants who exhibit significantly harmful or persistently troubling behaviour.

Through various strategic methods such as rewards for the client’s good behaviour, specialised behaviour intervention support can prevent the targeted behaviour from repeating in the future.

The Integral Therapeutic Support team addresses the underlying cause of the problematic behaviour in order to prevent it from occurring again in the future.

The NDIS mission is to provide clients with support and services to help them achieve individual goals and learn to live in and become members of their communities  in Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Individuals aged 7 to 65 who require significant support to meet their daily needs due to a disability may be eligible to apply for the NDIS, which provides access to a customised design of support and treatment based on their daily needs, long-term and short-term goals, and aspirations.

Positive Behaviour Support Plan

A behaviour support plan outlines the course of action or steps to be taken following the assessment. The plan outlines the skills that the patient must learn in order to eliminate problematic behaviours.

Only a mental health professional can administer the plan based on the patient’s needs. However, mental health professionals can provide briefing sessions to the patients’ parents and primary carers in order for the behavioural support plan to be implemented.

Participants in the NDIS in the city can also choose to have their plans developed by an NDIS provider of their choice within their state. The following activities are included in the implemented behaviour support plan to assist patients:

  • Planning with the client in mind. When developing the behaviour support plan, the clients’ personal goals, strengths, and areas for improvement are taken into account. Depending on what these are, the treatment will be aligned.
  • Intervention and evaluation. This is an essential component of the behaviour support plan because it determines which behaviours will be addressed and how they can be mitigated or improved.
  • Changes in the environment. This includes developing skills to assist a client in coping with the current condition, eliminating potential triggers, and implementing successful methods to manage the current situation.
  • Family and primary carers are involved. The involvement of family members and carers is critical to ensuring that the patient receives the necessary support during the assessment and implementation of the behaviour support plan.
